ROBERT BUCK, SR. Robert Buck, Sr. passed away after a brief illness on Tuesday, May 26, 2020. Loving husband of Kathleen A. (Brown) and the late Sandra Buck (Chambers), he was the devoted father of Robert, Jr. (Janice), Frank C. (Linda) and Margaret E. (Brian Cohen); and grandfather of Jessica, Erica, Lauren (Brian Matthews), Andy Buck and Ava and Ansel Cohen. Born September 4, 1933 to Albert F. and Grace E. (Hoffman) Buck, Bob and his late brother Albert Jr. spent their earliest years in Crafton Heights before moving to Ross Township. After graduating from West View High School, he immediately followed in his brother's footsteps and enlisted in the US Air Force. Despite many attempts to “see the world” by volunteering for assignments as far afield as Goose Bay, Labrador, Bob spent his time in the Mojave Desert working as a jet engine mechanic crew chief at George AFB. He was always good for a story about the food or the spiders in Victorville. After his service, Bob returned to Pittsburgh and settled in Ross Township. He spent 30 years in banking before retiring in 1993, when his best hours were spent alongside his children working on home improvement projects and the maintenance of his investment properties. Bob was an amateur pilot, model train enthusiast, and coin collector. He spent his free-time in the yard, tinkering in the garage, and summer weekends sitting around a campfire with his family. Bob loved to travel and will be remembered for his love of driving – especially on epic road trips. His family will tell you that no outing with him was complete without somehow “wrapping a meal around it”. Whether it was steak and potatoes, a fish and a beer, or a slice of kielbasa over the fire, Bob delighted in a good meal. Bob was a kind and honest man, a true gentleman and had a life well-lived. He loved his family deeply and he will be missed tremendously. Bob will be laid to rest on Saturday May 30, 2020 in Allegheny County Memorial Park. Arrangements by H.P. BRANDT FUNERAL HOME in Perrysville. A celebration of his life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, please consider donations to St. John's Lutheran Church, 920 Perry Hwy., Pittsburgh, PA 15229. Send condolences post-gazette.com/gb

MARY E. (BERGQUIST) MEEHAN May 25, 1929- May 25, 2020 On her 91st birthday, this amazing woman passed away peacefully after a long battle with dementia, her youngest daughter, Joanne, by her side. Mary was born and raised in Jamaica Plain (Boston), MA. At the age of 25 she married and started a family. In 1970, Mary and her husband relocated to Mt. Lebanon where she proudly raised her nine children with boundless energy and little sleep. Mary's devotion was to her family. She was loyal, humble, sweet in nature, and witty as heck. Her generosity was endless. She welcomed all into her home with a warm embrace, a hot cup of tea, and a gentle smile. She enjoyed crocheting, bowling, dancing, bingo, playing penny slots, shopping, and caring for others. But, what Mary most enjoyed were the holidays, her favorite being Christmas Eve. Her door was always open, but on Christmas Eve her home became filled with family, friends, food, laughter, and an abundance of love. She made sure she hung up a stocking, for every family member, no matter how long it had been since she had seen or heard from them. She would actually have 75 stockings hanging from her mantle. She accepted everyone with open arms. She would feed you and give you shelter without hesitation. It didn't matter how well she knew you, what you did, or how many times you came back to her needing a place to stay. She would give you her last dime, or the coat off her back, and asked for nothing in return. One of her favorite roles in life was being a Nana to her many grandchildren. The Only thing that mattered to her was family. She will be greatly missed by daughters, Joanne Bellia (Mark), Karen MacBeth (Mike), Patricia Meehan (Tracey), Donna Meehan, and Maryanne Bergin (Ralph). And four sons, Robert (Donna), Dennis (Diane), Richard (Carol), and Brian; her grandchildren, most present in her life Jillian (Todd), Jaclyn (Nick), Jenna (Chas), Juliet (Sasha), Justine (Anthony), Alyssa, Alicia, Kyle. And Bobby (Val), Joe (Lauren), Michael (Kate), Jesse, Chad (Brian), and Erin; her great grandchildren, Ashley, Max, Olivia, Nolan, Blakely, Cooper, Camryn, Jessica, Peyton, Oliver, Niko, Josie, Ellie, Riley, Bristol, Kayleigh, Connor, Jayden, Jacob, Jordan, Richard, and Devin; her great-great grandchildren, Dylan, Lucas, and Rana. She will also be missed by all her nieces and nephews in Boston. Preceded in death by her parents, Paul and Mary Bergquist; brothers, Arthur (Theresa) and Roy; along with sister-in-law and best friend, Catherine Bergquist. On behalf of Mary, her daughters would like to thank the many devoted caregivers at Asbury Heights in Mt. Lebanon, for the love, friendship, care, and compassion during her final months. Our mother was the strongest, kindest, and most caring woman you could ever meet. She was always there for everyone and loved with all she had in her. To know her was to love her. It was that easy. This world, our world, will never be the same. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Light of Life Mission, Food Bank, or the Alzheimer's Association. Visitation: Sunday 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. and Monday 2-4 and 6-8 p.m., WILLIAM SLATER II FUNERAL SERVICES, 1650 Greentree Rd., Scott Township 15220. Funeral service to be held at Mt. BARBARA JEAN SMOCER Age 76, of Cranberry Twp., passed away peacefully on Tuesday, May 26, 2020 after a long and inspiring battle. She was born March 24, 1944, in Pittsburgh, daughter of the late Henry and Sue (Davis) LaRosa. Beloved wife of the late Anthony Smocer, whom she married on May 8, 1965; loving mother of Susan (Ron) Platt, Michael H. (Malinda) Smocer, and Jessica Smocer; grammy of Makara, Marin, Gage, and Parker; dear sister of John (Judie) LaRosa, and Alice (Rick) Applegate. Barbara was an educator by vocation and by nature. She taught through empathy and love, not through discipline. She was deceptively tough, but only as a last resort. She believed in the inherent good in all of us and there were no mistakes you could ever make that would change her mind. She taught through her grace in living and her grace in dying. She often laughed at herself, but never at others. She was an ideologue of the best sort, never idealistic on behalf of her own self-interests, but always on behalf of others'. Her first instinct was always to seek ways to help others, and that instinct remained unchanged even in her most challenging moments. She loved nice clothes and always looked her best even when she had nowhere to go. She was immensely curious about cultures, new technology, politics… the topic didn't matter there was always something else to learn. Barbara did nothing halfway. Parenting, shopping, cooking, gardening, reading, and on and on. Her interests were broad and her zest for life contagious. Barbara was as beautiful as her life. Her personality lit up a room, and no disease was ever able to change that. Not even in her last days. Her greatest joys in life came from her family… her many dogs, her children, her grandchildren, and especially her husband of 50-plus years. Anyone who ever watched them dance in this world knows what they are doing again. We are so fortunate she was a part of our lives. Due to our Nation's Current Pandemic, private family services will be held Friday at 3 pm. A streaming of Barbara's Celebration of Life officiated by Rev. Jim Torquato will be available to those unable to attend. Please contact Michael Smocer for details: mhsmocer@gmail.com. Professional Arrangements entrusted to DEVLIN FUNERAL HOME OF CRANBERRY TWP.
