DAVID R. HILL Of Worton, MD, who resided in Pittsburgh, PA, between 1988 and 2006, sadly left this world on May 3, 2020. A Systems Engineer with GEC in the UK, Dave transferred to Pittsburgh to open the U.S. Office for GEC Automation Projects. Here he held the position of Engineering Manager, initially in the metals business, but later expanding and growing capability across marine, mining and general industry through many changes in parent companies. When recalling the victories and challenges involved in managing a start-up, Dave's fondest memories were of the extraordinary effort his team put forth to ensure success, and the camaraderie and lasting friendships that developed. In addition to making their mark in the world of metals engineering, Dave and his colleagues conducted diligent, hands-on research and felt confident they were successful in identifying the finest happy hour opportunities available in the greater Pittsburgh area. And yet, according to Dave, only on rare occasions did he and his colleagues play even harder than they worked. Dave met Nancy Franklyn in Pittsburgh and they married in 1990. She was a welcome addition to the GEC circle, as well as a devoted wife. Of her many talents, Dave raved about her culinary skills above all. He was predeceased by his much-loved wife in 2016, shortly after Nancy was diagnosed with breast cancer. In addition to Nancy, Dave was predeceased by his mother and father, Mary and Edward Hill and brother, John Hill. He is survived by beloved daughters and their husbands, Laura Sabharwal (Arvind), Rebecca Holburn (Simon), and Emma Callanan (Steve); seven precious grandchildren, Anusha, Rohan and Ben Sabharwal, Florence and Ollie Holburn, and Amelie and Georgia Callanan; his treasured sister, Margaret Harringto; and current partner, Diane Dooley, whom he adored and cherished as she did him. A memorial service will be scheduled, and notification will be published, when Covid-19 restrictions have been eased. www.fhnfuneralhome.com Send condolences post-gazette.com/gb
